A look at the common misconceptions that drive people to use tanning beds.

Despite advances in scientific knowledge that unequivocally demonstrate that tanning in UV booths—even when subject to strict regulations—increases the risk of skin cancer, the practice of artificial UV tanning has seen significant growth in France in recent years. According to data from the 2010 Cancer Barometer, certain misconceptions about the supposed benefits of artificial UV light remain firmly entrenched in popular belief. It is therefore important to provide accurate information about the dangers associated with such exposure and to counter opinions that trivialize and encourage the use of this practice by presenting it as useful, or even beneficial to health.
