Unplugged - CPS Initiative to Combat Addiction
An "evidence-based" program is a standardized intervention grounded in a theoretical framework, whose effectiveness has been demonstrated through a rigorous scientific evaluation protocol that includes a comparison between a treatment group and a control group. Unplugged is one such validated program. It consists of 12 one-hour sessions delivered in a classroom setting. Its intervention strategy focuses on strengthening psychosocial skills, correcting normative beliefs, changing attitudes toward drugs, and improving knowledge about psychoactive substances through the use of interactive methods (scenarios, role-playing) during formalized and structured sessions (a manual detailing the session procedures). The implementation model is based on a principle of progressive co-facilitation between the middle school professional and a prevention specialist during the 12 sessions of the first year, with the co-facilitator gradually taking on more autonomy in subsequent years, except for the 3 sessions concerning substances. Since 2014, Apléat Acep has been rolling out Unplugged in the Loiret and Cher departments, with a transition to a national scale in collaboration with the Addiction Federation and Santé Publique France. Based on our experience, three major challenges have emerged: How can we ensure the sustainability of the co-facilitators? How can we maintain the quality of the prevention officers’ professional practices? How can we move more decisively toward a proportionate approach to universal coverage? The proposed presentation will help identify avenues for further reflection.
