In France, alcohol kills 41,000 people a year, accounting for 7% of deaths among those over 15, particularly among men. Cancer is the leading cause of these deaths, followed by cardiovascular and digestive diseases. The harm is not only physical: alcohol use disorders play a role in early-onset dementia and are associated with anxiety and depression, increasing the risk of suicide. Combating these harmful effects requires coordinated public policies at various levels.
