Public Health Bulletin on Tuberculosis in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. July 2022.

Key Points

  • In Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the tuberculosis case rate remained well below the national average, with 3.5 reported cases per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 6.9 per 100,000 inhabitants in metropolitan France)

  • Disparities were observed between departments, with the highest reported rates in the Territoire-de-Belfort (10 per 100,000 inhabitants) and Haute-Saône (6.9 per 100,000 inhabitants) in 2020

  • The incidence is twice as high among men

  • People born outside France are the population identified as most affected by the disease and on whom control and prevention efforts should focus

  • Isolated pulmonary forms are the most common

  • Severe forms (meningeal or miliary) remain rare

  • Treatment completion rates at the regional level between 2015 and 2018 fell short of the target set by the World Health Organization

  • A single case of MDR tuberculosis (multidrug-resistant, i.e., resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin) or RR tuberculosis (resistant to rifampicin alone)
