  • The proportion of women aged 35 or older at childbirth has increased, reaching 22.2% in 2024. Conversely, “teenage” pregnancies (< 20 years old) have declined (1.7% in 2024).
  • The number of recipients of State Medical Aid (AME) or the Solidarity-Based Supplementary Health Insurance (C2S) increased (in 2024, 1.1% and 13.7%, respectively, of women who gave birth in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), suggesting an increase in financial insecurity.
  • The prevalence of women who were overweight before pregnancy (37.8% in 2021) and those with pre-existing diabetes (0.81% in 2024) has increased in the region, as it has throughout France.
  • The proportions of women who smoked one year before pregnancy (31.1%), during the third trimester of pregnancy (15.7%), and two months postpartum (18.9%) were higher in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté than in France as a whole in 2021.
  • In 2021, 73.8% of women attempted to breastfeed their babies; 66.8% were able to establish mixed or exclusive breastfeeding in the maternity ward; and at 2 months of age, 46.0% of infants were receiving mixed or exclusive breastfeeding.
  • In 2021, 80.0% of infants were consistently placed on their backs two months after birth, and 8.6% slept in their parents’ bed (a risky practice).
