Summary

In Week 11 (March 15–21, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children (+14%, or 2,520) and remained stable among adults (-1.4%).

In Week 11, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups increased for the second consecutive week, with 3,161 procedures recorded (vs. 2,750 in Week 10; a 15% increase); however, the share of total activity across all age groups remained stable at 4.2% (versus 4.1% in Week 10). Analysis by age group shows a marked increase among children aged 2–14 (+30%, or +126 procedures) and a more moderate increase in other age groups (+13%, or +285 procedures). Suspected COVID-19 is the fourth most common diagnosis among those aged 2–74. At the regional level, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in all regions except Corsica and Pays de la Loire. The most significant increases were observed in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+42%, or +39 cases), Occitanie (+28%, or +31 cases), Grand-Est (+21%, or +50 cases), Normandy (+19%, or +25 cases), PACA (+17%, or +53 procedures), and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+17%, or +63 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 193,982 procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among seasonal conditions, there has been an increase in most respiratory illnesses among children: ENT conditions (+21%, or 2,151 more cases), bronchitis (+34%, or 357 more cases), pneumonia (+47%, or 51 more cases), asthma (+14%, or 44 more cases), and bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (+18%, or 61 more cases). Among those aged 75 and older, there was also an increase in procedures for ENT conditions (+33%, or 39 procedures). Notably, among those aged 15–74, there was a slight increase in procedures for anxiety (+5%, or 60 procedures).
