Key Points
In Week 03 (January 17–23, 2022), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups. After a week of stability, the number of cases involving suspected COVID-19 began to rise again. In total, 8,951 cases (vs. 8,270 cases in Week 02) were recorded (an increase of 8% vs. 1% in Week 02 and 38% in Week 01). These cases are rising among children (+22%, or 452 cases) and adults aged 75 and older (+11%, or 19 cases). Suspected COVID-19 is the second most common condition among children and adults aged 15–74. At the regional level, the sharpest increases were observed in Corsica (+28%, or +36 cases), Hauts-de-France (+23%, or +273 cases), Grand-Est (+21%, or +175 procedures), and Brittany (+20%, or +55 procedures). Two regions saw a decrease in the number of procedures: PACA (-17%, or -166 procedures) and Pays de la Loire (-6%, or -35 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 307,420 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed. Among other indicators, the increases observed mainly concern respiratory conditions in children, including influenza/flu-like illness (+8%, or +60 procedures), bronchitis (+15%, or +105 procedures), pneumonia (+40%, or 24 cases among 2- to 14-year-olds), and bronchiolitis (+17%, or 38 cases among children under 2). An increase in cases of chickenpox (+88%) and isolated fever (+19% among children under 2) is also observed among children. Among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase in procedures for heart conditions (+23%, or +32 procedures) and deaths (+11%, or +36 procedures).
