Summary

In week 25 (June 18–24), emergency department visits rose slightly among children under 2 years of age (+4%, or +908 visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

Most seasonal conditions are on the rise among both adults and children. Across all age groups, there was an increase in visits for insect bites (+21%, or +388 visits), burns (+19%, or +267 visits), and hyperthermia/heatstroke (+287%, or +158 visits), as well as for viral meningitis (+33%, or +35 visits). There was also an increase in visits for infectious conjunctivitis among children aged 2–14 (+28%) and among adults (+15%).

Among nonspecific indicators, visits for dehydration in adults (+17%, or +52 visits) and isolated fever in children under 15 (+10%, or +363 visits) are on the rise.

Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for ENT infections (+6%, or +490 visits) among children under 15. Among adults, there was an increase in visits for trauma (+9%, or +5,684 visits) as well as for alcohol intoxication, up 10% (+240 visits) among those aged 15–74, which ranked among the 10 most common conditions during the Fête de la Musique on June 21, 2018.
