Summary
In week 23 (June 3–9, 2019), total emergency department activity remained stable among those under 15 and those aged 75 and older, while it rose slightly among those aged 15–74 (+2%, or +4,891 visits). Hospitalizations following emergency department visits increased among those aged 2–14 (+5%, or 257 hospitalizations) and those aged 15–74 (+5%, or 1,733 hospitalizations).
Over the past week, the following trends were observed:
among seasonal conditions, an increase in visits for insect bites (+8%, or +55 visits) and allergies (+6%, or +107 visits) among those aged 15–74. Visits for viral meningitis across all age groups also rose slightly (+31%, or +14 visits);
an increase in visits for general malaise (+10%, or +59 visits) among those under 15 and asthma attacks (+15%, or +148 visits) among those 15 and older.
Among the most common conditions, abdominal pain is on the rise among 2- to 14-year-olds (+9%, or 330 visits).
