Key Points

In Week 03 (January 12–18), the number of emergency department visits rose sharply among children aged 2–14 (+29%, or 15,470 visits) and more moderately among children under 2 (+6%, or 1,302 visits). Activity remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency room visits followed this trend, with an increase among children aged 2–14 (+16%, or 790 hospitalizations) and children under 2 (+9%, or 321 hospitalizations).

Trends in respiratory indicators:

  • There has been a sharp rise in influenza/influenza-like illness among children under 15 (+27%, or 1,230 visits), driven primarily by the 2–14 age group (+39%, or 1,095 visits).

To a lesser extent, and within a trend that remains stable or declining, there has been an increase in cases for other respiratory indicators among children under 15. Only bronchiolitis among children under 1 year of age has decreased.

  • Acute bronchitis among 2- to 14-year-olds (+46%, or +55 visits), pneumonia (+20%, or +80 visits), and asthma attacks (+54%, or +760 visits).

  • ENT infections among 2- to 14-year-olds (+35%, or +1,425 visits).

All these indicators are declining among adults.

General symptoms, Neurology, and Trauma

  • Malaise: among 2- to 14-year-olds (+23%, or +121 visits) and 15- to 74-year-olds (+14%, or +974 visits).

  • Neurological disorders: among 2- to 14-year-olds (+32%, or 265 more visits) and 15- to 74-year-olds (+12%, or 831 more visits).

  • Trauma: among 2- to 14-year-olds (+34%, or +5,277 visits).

Digestive and infectious diseases

  • Nonspecific abdominal pain: in all age groups except those under 2 years of age: 2–14 years old (+27%, or +746 visits), 15–74 years old (+8%, or +1,057 visits), and 75 years or older (+7%, or +106 visits).

  • Gastroenteritis in children under 15 years of age (+11%, or +350 visits), vomiting in children aged 2–14 years (+19%, or +216 visits), and conjunctivitis in children aged 2–14 years (+32%, or +40 visits).

Mental health

  • Admissions for suicidal behavior are increasing among adults (+10%, or +130 admissions).
