The Global Malaria Situation in 1994
The Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin reproduces an excerpt from an article published in the Weekly Epidemiological Record (No. 36, September 5, 1997) on the global malaria situation in 1994. It is estimated that 2.3 billion people, or 41% of the world’s population, lived in areas at risk of malaria in 1994. The global incidence of malaria is estimated at 300–500 million clinical cases per year. It is estimated that 1.5 to 2.7 million people die each year from malaria. The problem of resistance to antimalarial drugs worsened in 1994. (adapted from the text).
