Bronchiolitis
Transition to the post-epidemic phase. In week 17 of 2021, a clear decline in indicators was observed:
21 SOS Médecins consultations were recorded, representing 4.5% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 5.4% in week 16);
39 emergency room visits were recorded, representing 4.7% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 7% in week 16), of which 22 were followed by hospitalization, representing 56% of bronchiolitis cases (compared to 53% in week 16); 59% of hospitalized cases were under 3 months old (compared to 26% in week 16);
13% of hospitalizations among children under 2 years of age were for bronchiolitis (compared to 29% in week 16);
A sharp decrease in the number of RSV cases detected by university hospital laboratories in the region.
The 2020–2021 winter season was marked by an atypical bronchiolitis epidemic that began very late in week 10 of 2021, a short duration (7 weeks), a scale significantly lower than in previous years, and a very moderate epidemic peak occurring in week 13 (12% of emergency department activity and 7% of SOS Médecins activity during the peak).
