Normandy Public Health Bulletin. April 2018.

Key Points

  • Vaccination coverage rates for DTP, Haemophilus influenzae type B, hepatitis B, and pneumococcus are high (>= 90%) in the departments for which vaccination coverage indicators are available. However, vaccination coverage rates for hepatitis B and pneumococcal vaccines need to be improved in order to reach or exceed the 95% threshold achieved for DTP and Haemophilus influenzae type B vaccines.

  • Two-dose vaccination coverage rates against measles, mumps, and rubella are lower than one-dose coverage rates in the departments for which both vaccination coverage indicators are available. Two-dose vaccination coverage rates are estimated at around 80%, and improvements are needed (>= 95%) to eliminate any risk of measles virus circulation.

  • Vaccination coverage against meningococcal C is higher among 2-year-olds compared to rates observed in older age groups, where catch-up vaccination is low and not increasing. Implementation of recommendations across the entire population is necessary to provide individual protection for all and to establish herd immunity as the core of the vaccination strategy.

  • Vaccination coverage against human papillomavirus is increasing slightly, but remains at very low levels, with approximately one in four adolescent girls having completed their vaccination series.
