Health issues among African migrants traveling to the country.

Travel medicine is a relatively new field whose main objectives are to inform travelers about the risks of health problems during stays abroad—primarily in tropical regions—to ensure their prevention, and to provide care upon their return. The choice of preventive measures—some of which are costly and must be paid for by travelers—is based primarily on risk assessment. However, very few studies exist on this topic, particularly regarding certain high-risk populations such as migrants (people from developing countries living in an industrialized country), who nevertheless represent a significant proportion of international travelers (between 20% and 40%). This is why we initiated a study at the travel advice centers of three hospitals in northern Paris, with the primary objectives of describing the main health issues encountered by African migrants returning to their countries of origin in sub-Saharan Africa for vacations and the preventive measures they use.
