Key Points

Dengue

  • Over the past two weeks, dengue activity in the region was low, with 5 confirmed cases during this period (3 in week 48 and 2 in week 47). All cases were from the Savanes sector. The serotype identified was exclusively DENV-2.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases was moderate and stable over the past two weeks, with 11 cases reported (4 in S48 and 7 in S47 vs. 12 in total in S45 and S46). Among these 11 P. vivax cases, no relapses were reported. Additionally, 5 P. vivax infections were diagnosed among residents of Matoury, including 2 likely infected in the commune, 1 infected in Oyapock, and 2 individuals for whom the place of infection is undetermined.

  • In total, 157 cases of malaria have been recorded since the beginning of the year. After a relatively quiet period, malaria activity increased in November with 23 cases recorded. Over the past two months, infections have occurred primarily in creeks/rivers and in gold panning areas.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Over the past two weeks, the number of clinically suspected cases of influenza-like illness has been rising, reaching a moderate level. The number of biologically confirmed cases has increased significantly, with 55 cases of Influenza A recorded (23 H1N1pdm09, 30 H3N2, and 2 unspecified). The H3N2 subtype has been circulating at low levels since the beginning of 2025. French Guiana is entering the pre-epidemic phase for influenza this week.

  • Activity related to bronchiolitis and COVID-19 was low, with 3 positive samples for RSV and 1 SARS-CoV-2 identified by laboratories over the past two weeks.

Diarrhea

  • Activity was stable and moderate in primary care centers and local hospitals, as well as in the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
