Dengue
Over the past two weeks, dengue activity in the territory has been low, with a total of 3 confirmed cases (1 in week 31 and 2 in week 32). One case originated in the West Coast region, and the location was undetermined for the other two. The identified serotype was exclusively DENV-2.
Since the beginning of the year, 246 cases of dengue have been confirmed in French Guiana, an average of 8 per week. Of these, 126 were from the Savanes sector, 51 from the Western Coast, 28 from Cayenne Island, 9 from Maroni, 1 from the Eastern Interior sector; the location was undetermined for 25 cases, and 6 were residents outside French Guiana. Of the 169 samples serotyped, 98% were DENV-2.
Malaria
The number of malaria cases diagnosed in the healthcare system over the past two weeks remained low, with 3 cases (1 in S32 and 2 in S31, vs. 4 in S29 and S30). These 3 cases were relapses of P. vivax.
In total, 106 malaria cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year. Malaria activity has stabilized since July. Furthermore, since the beginning of the year, infections have occurred primarily in gold-mining areas.
Acute respiratory infections (influenza, bronchiolitis, and COVID-19)
The flu epidemic has been declining for several weeks, reaching a low level of activity. The end of the epidemic was declared this week.
Although bronchiolitis activity is declining, the outbreak continues in the region.
COVID-19 activity has been low in emergency departments and community health centers/local hospitals over the past two weeks.
Diarrhea
Activity was stable and moderate in community health centers and local hospitals, as well as in the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
