New Approaches to Communicating with Migrants.
The article reviews the factors to consider when providing information on AIDS to migrant populations: cultural diversity, different lifestyles, language differences, and limited proficiency in French—factors highlighted by the INED survey of these populations. The lack of epidemiological data on AIDS is another factor, with significant underreporting due to fear of rejection; only geographic origin can serve as a reference point. Also to be considered is the increased stigma toward HIV-positive individuals, both within their own communities and among the general population. The author describes appropriate communication methods: the media (educational tools, audiovisual materials), and the messages, emphasizing the importance of the source of this information, whether conveyed directly or through associations. He discusses the potential impact of using television or innovative methods.
