In Brazil, health promotion is organized at the local level.

Since 2006, Brazil has had a national health promotion policy. The goal is to improve the population’s health by addressing economic, social, and health determinants. Brazil has thus developed a "family health" program at the local level, in which each team of professionals serves a catchment area of approximately 5,000 people. There are 30,000 teams operating across the country, currently serving 96.8 million Brazilians out of the country’s total population of 191 million.
