Starting in November 2018, the residents of Mayotte are invited to participate in the “UNONO WA MAORE” survey to gain a better understanding of their health status and to estimate vaccination coverage among children under the age of 2.
Questionnaire
Method
Survey Unono Wa Maore: Combating Chronic Diseases in Mayotte, a Key Priority for the Mayotte Regional Health Agency (press release dated May 5, 2022)
This survey is being conducted by Santé publique France with support from the Indian Ocean Regional Health Agency. Prior to the main survey, a pilot study was conducted in August 2018 to test the protocol and procedures.
To describe behaviors, attitudes, and perceptions of health, as well as their determinants
Estimate the prevalence of certain chronic and infectious diseases (diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hepatitis B and C, HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia)
Assess the acceptability and feasibility of voluntary screening for bacterial and viral sexually transmitted infections, conducted via at-home self-collection based on individual characteristics
Estimate vaccination coverage among children aged 0 to 2 years (inclusive) and their participation in the catch-up vaccination campaign organized by Santé publique France and the Indian Ocean Regional Health Agency (ARS) in June 2018.
This study will enable the adaptation and development of prevention and health promotion measures by identifying priority health issues as well as the most vulnerable population groups.
The survey is based on a representative sample of the population residing in Mayotte under the age of 70. 4,000 people aged 15 to 69 residing in Mayotte, as well as 2,000 to 2,500 children under the age of 15, will be surveyed. Only individuals over the age of 15 will be included in the sample.
The survey is based on face-to-face interviews conducted at home by trained interviewers, with full respect for confidentiality and anonymity. The questionnaire is available in three languages (French, Shimaore, Shibushi) and includes sections common to the various Health Barometers (French overseas departments and mainland France) as well as sections specific to Mayotte (infectious diseases and sexual health). At the end of the interviews and with the participant’s consent, the interviewer will schedule an appointment to take anthropometric measurements, check blood pressure, and collect venous blood samples as well as self-collected urine and vaginal samples.
