Nutritional Status of the Population of Mayotte (Children and Adults): Results of the 2019 Unono Wa Maore Study and Trends Since 2006

To implement the National Nutrition and Health Program (PNNS) in the overseas territories, it is necessary to have recent data and to be able to assess changes in the nutritional situation over time. It is within this framework that, in Mayotte, the nutritional component of the Unono Wa Maore study was conducted in 2019 to update the data from the Nutrimay-2006 study. In both studies, a health examination was conducted among adults and children to obtain anthropometric measurements that are comparable over time. In addition, face-to-face questionnaires were used to gather information on dietary habits, such as infant breastfeeding practices and adult diets (based on questions regarding the frequency of food consumption). Food insecurity was also measured using the Household Food Security Survey Module (HFSSM). In 2019, the population of Mayotte continued to be characterized by high prevalence rates of obesity, particularly among women. The prevalence of obesity was 39.0% among those aged 15–69.
