Heat Waves and Health in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Bulletin dated July 8, 2026.

Key Points

  • According to Météo France, two departments have been under an orange heat wave alert since July 5, 2026 (Drôme and Ardèche). As of July 7, 2026, nine departments in the region are under an orange heat wave alert (Allier (03), Ardèche (07), Drôme (26), Isère (38), Loire (42), Puy-de-Dôme (63), Rhône (69), Savoie (73), and Haute-Savoie (74)).
  • A regional analysis of emergency care utilization indicates that the composite health indicator iCanicule (which includes hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) has remained stable since the start of the heatwave and compared to the reference period. Health indicators are currently slightly lower than those observed during the May heat wave.
  • Heat poses a health risk to the entire population. The observed health impacts underscore the importance of implementing preventive measures to mitigate the effects of heat.
