SOS Médecins National Newsletter, January 9, 2024
Key Points
In Week 01 (January 1–7, 2024), the second week of the end-of-year holidays, activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among those aged 15 and older (+12%) and decreased among those under 15 (-14%).
Across all age groups, there was an increase in cases of trauma (+28%) and isolated fever (+20%), driven primarily by those under 15 (up 35% and 18%, respectively) and those aged 15–74 (up 36% and 32%, respectively).
No other notable increase in indicators was observed among those under 15, consistent with an overall decline in activity in this age group. The proportion of visits for influenza/influenza-like illness remained stable (6.55% of all visits versus 6.73%). The increase in cases of chickenpox continued for the second week (+21%). Consultations for bronchiolitis among children under 1 year of age decreased sharply (-37%).
Among those aged 15 and older, increases were seen for influenza/influenza-like illness (+24% among those aged 15–74 only, with a 25% decrease among those aged 75 and older) and pneumonia (10%). This latter indicator remains well above levels seen in previous years. Procedures for asthma (+20%) are also on the rise. Mental health indicators are increasing, such as anxiety (+35%) and depressive states (+35%), at levels comparable to previous years.
