Key Points

In Week 20 (May 12–18, 2025), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following a visit were up among 2- to 14-year-olds (up 9%, or 6,139 visits, and up 12%, or 629 hospitalizations following a visit, respectively) and remained stable or declined in all other age groups compared to the previous week.

Among the indicators analyzed, there was an increase across all age groups in visits for general malaise (+9%, or +1,064 visits) and for insect bites (+27%, or +119 visits).

The largest increases were observed among children aged 2–14. For this age group, there was an increase in emergency department visits for:

  • trauma (+10%, or +2,800 visits),

  • asthma (+26%, or 340 visits),

  • nonspecific abdominal pain (+9%, or 265 more visits),

  • ENT infections (+8%, or 265 more visits),

  • neurological problems (+13%, or 123 visits),

  • conjunctivitis (+47%, or +103 visits),

  • allergies (+21%, or +98 visits),

  • suicidal behavior (+27%, or +51 visits).
