Key Points

  • In Week 10 (March 3–9, 2025), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations increased among children aged 2–14 (+14%, or 7,962 visits, and +10%, or 511 hospitalizations) and remained stable compared to the previous week in other age groups.

  • In connection with the start of the school year, there has been an increase in emergency department visits among children aged 2–14 for trauma (+26%, or 4,831 visits), asthma attacks (+30%, or 310 visits), and digestive disorders: vomiting (+14%, or 133 visits) and gastroenteritis (+10%, or 200 visits). There has also been an increase in fainting episodes in this age group (+11%, or 50 visits).

  • Visits for influenza/flu-like illness continued to decline across all age groups (-35%, or -1,831 visits) and returned to levels seen in previous years. Visits related to other respiratory conditions remained stable or declined. However, there was an increase, albeit among small numbers, in visits for suspected COVID-19 among children under 2 years of age (+24%, or +11 visits) and people over 75 years of age (+19%, or +24 visits).

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits among children under 2 years of age for dehydration (+33%, or +12 visits) and urinary tract infections (+11%, or +30 visits), and among adults for trauma (+6%, or +4,057 visits), conjunctivitis (+9%, or +46 visits), dehydration among those aged 15–74 (+13%, or +12 visits) and gastroenteritis among those aged 75 and older (+7%, or +16 visits).
