Key Points
In Week 22 (May 26–June 1, 2025), the number of emergency department visits increased among children under 2 years of age compared with the previous week (+8%, or +1,454 visits), decreased among children aged 2–14 years (-6%, or -4,176 visits), and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.
Among respiratory conditions, there was an increase in emergency department visits for ENT conditions across all age groups (+12%, or +1,202 visits), suspected COVID-19 among children under 2 years old (+39%, or 27 visits) and adults (+13%, or 53 visits), and pneumonia among those aged 75 and older (+9%, or 197 visits).
Furthermore, in connection with weather conditions, there has been an increase in visits:
across all age groups: for insect bites (+87%, or +419 visits), hyperthermia/heatstroke in small numbers of cases (+126 visits), and allergies (+12%, or +302 visits);
among adults: for dehydration (+23%, or +53 visits), urinary tract infections (+6%, or +300 visits); and among those aged 15–74 for asthma attacks (+19%, or +259 visits) and skin/subcutaneous infections (+9%, or +415 visits).
Among other indicators, the following increases in visits are noted:
among children: for chickenpox (+61%, or +125 visits), scarlet fever among 2- to 14-year-olds (+33%, or +28 visits), isolated fever (+11%, or +143 visits), and conjunctivitis (+15%, or +71 visits);
in adults: for gastroenteritis (+6%, or +80 visits) and isolated fever in those aged 75 and older (+10%, or +33 visits).
