Key Points
In Week 27 (July 4–10, 2022), emergency department visits were down slightly among children aged 2–14 (-9%, or 5,310 fewer visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency room visits increased slightly among children under 2 years old (+6%, or 179 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.
For the fifth consecutive week, visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups continued to rise (10,056 vs. 7,831 visits, or +23% vs. +36% in Week 26) in all age groups: +28% among children (or +319 visits) and +22% among adults (+1,579 visits). The share of activity across all age groups is slightly up (3.0% vs. 2.4% in Week 26), and the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit remains stable (30% vs. 29% in Week 26). At the regional level, the largest increases were observed in Brittany (+31%, or +97 visits), Centre-Val de Loire (+29%, or +75 visits), PACA (+25%, or +264 visits), and Guadeloupe (+20%, or +14 visits).
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 829,756 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Most other indicators are stable or declining. Notable trends include:
an increase in visits for insect bites across all age groups (+20%, or +339 visits);
among children: an increase in visits for hyperthermia and heatstroke among 2- to 14-year-olds (+41%, or +15 visits) and visits for isolated fever and gastroenteritis among children under 2 years of age (respectively +7% and +9%, or +210 and +82 visits);
among adults, an increase in visits for pneumonia among those aged 75 and older (+13%, or +185 visits).
