Summary
In week 27 (July 5–11, 2021), emergency department visits were down among children aged 2–14 (-7%, or 4,228 fewer visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits were down across all age groups (-4%, or 2,710 fewer visits).
After 10 consecutive weeks of decline, visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups remain up by 15% (1,118 visits in Week 27 vs. 970 in Week 26), with a stable share of activity at 0.4%. By age group, this increase remains significant among those aged 15–74 (+20%, or +161 visits) and moderate among children (+22%, or +6 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, the decline in visits continues (-13%, or -19 visits). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups has decreased to 39% (vs. 43% in Week 26). At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in six regions (PACA (+71%, or +50 visits), Île-de-France (+17%, or +37 visits), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+22%, or +15 visits), Grand-Est (+36%, or +14 visits), Occitanie (+22%, or +14 visits), Hauts-de-France (+37%, or +16 visits)), and are stable or declining in the other regions. Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 503,583 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Most seasonal indicators remain on the decline across all age groups, with observed levels similar to or even lower than those of 2019–2020. However, increases were noted for chickenpox across all ages (+42%, or +112 visits) and for allergies among those aged 15–74 (+7%, or +123 visits).
