Summary
In Week 05 (February 1–7, 2021), there was an increase in visits among children for the fourth consecutive week (+8%, or +11,240 visits), a more moderate increase among those aged 15–74 (+3%, or +5,053 visits), and stabilization among those aged 75 and older. Hospitalizations following visits are on the rise among children (+9%, or 617 hospitalizations) and stable among adults.
In Week 05, visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups were stable (+1%), as was their share of total activity (7,529 visits and a 3% share of activity in W05 vs. 7,448 visits and 3% in W04), following two consecutive weeks of increases and stabilization in W04. These visits are down among children under 2 years of age and stable in other age groups.
Suspected COVID-19 remains the 6th most common diagnosis among those aged 15–74 and the 3rd most common among those aged 75 and older. The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups remains stable at 58%. At the regional level, visits for suspected COVID-19 are rising moderately in three metropolitan regions: Corsica (+29%, or +8 visits), PACA (+7%, or +80 visits), and Centre-Val de Loire (+5%, or +8 visits). There is also an increase in visits in Réunion (+108%, or +14 visits) and Mayotte (+18%, or +10 visits). Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 356,230 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Among seasonal conditions, there have been some moderate increases in visits for ENT conditions (+10% across all ages, or +880 visits) and respiratory conditions (bronchiolitis and asthma up 13% in children under 2, bronchitis up 29% in adults) as well as for gastrointestinal symptoms in children (gastroenteritis up 11% in children under 2 and vomiting up 16% in children aged 2–14). Visits for fever alone increased by approximately 10% among those aged 2–14 and 15–74. Finally, there was an increase in visits for abdominal pain among those aged 75 and older (+14%, or 136 visits).
