Summary

  • Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for all causes remain stable across all age groups.

  • Emergency department visits for influenza are down across all age groups (-23% overall). However, the proportion of hospitalizations among influenza-related visits has increased slightly (from 16.3% in week 4 to 17.5% in week 5) and remains higher than in the previous two years.

  • Among other seasonal illnesses, there has been an increase in emergency department visits for pneumonia, bronchitis, and general malaise among children under 15 years of age.

  • Among children, there was also an increase in conjunctivitis (+16%) and isolated fever (+6.6%) among those under 2 years of age, and in neurological disorders (+21%) and allergies (+15%) among those aged 2–14.

  • Among adults, visits for neurological disorders (+8%) and anxiety disorders (+7.9%) are on the rise and primarily affect adults aged 15–74.
