Summary
Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for all causes remain stable across all age groups.
Emergency department visits for influenza are down across all age groups (-23% overall). However, the proportion of hospitalizations among influenza-related visits has increased slightly (from 16.3% in week 4 to 17.5% in week 5) and remains higher than in the previous two years.
Among other seasonal illnesses, there has been an increase in emergency department visits for pneumonia, bronchitis, and general malaise among children under 15 years of age.
Among children, there was also an increase in conjunctivitis (+16%) and isolated fever (+6.6%) among those under 2 years of age, and in neurological disorders (+21%) and allergies (+15%) among those aged 2–14.
Among adults, visits for neurological disorders (+8%) and anxiety disorders (+7.9%) are on the rise and primarily affect adults aged 15–74.
