Summary

  • Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for all causes are declining among children under 2 years of age and adults aged 75 and older (-4% in visits and -5% in hospitalizations) and remain stable among children aged 2–14 and adults aged 15–74.

  • The decline in emergency department visits for influenza continues across all age groups (-42% across all ages). The proportion of hospitalizations among influenza-related visits is down (-50%) but remains higher than in the previous two years.

  • Other seasonal illnesses are stable or declining across all age groups. Note a slight decrease in visits (-6%), following last week’s stabilization, for gastroenteritis among children, with the proportion of cases beginning to decline. There is also a decrease in the proportion of hospitalizations following emergency department visits for isolated fever (-10%).

  • Additionally, among children, there was a slight increase in visits for trauma (+4%). Among children aged 2–14, there was an increase in visits for ingestion of foreign bodies (+11%) and specific abdominal pain (+7%), as well as for allergies (+5%).

  • There has been a slight increase in visits for nonspecific abdominal pain among children aged 2–14 (+4%) and adults aged 15–74 (+7%).
