Key Points
In Week 32 (August 8–14, 2022), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups.
Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups are down for the fourth consecutive week (3,252 vs. 4,205 visits, representing a 23% decrease in Week 32 vs. a 20% decrease in Week 31). This decline is observed among children under 2 years of age and among adults; visits among 2- to 14-year-olds remain stable. The proportion of cases across all age groups is down (1% vs. 1.3% in Week 31), while the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit has stabilized (38% vs. 37% in Week 31). At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are declining in all regions except Mayotte, French Guiana, and Réunion (stable).
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 860,032 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Regarding other indicators, the following stand out:
Among children aged 2–14, an increase in visits for skin infections (+18%, or +122 visits) and, to a lesser extent, for gastroenteritis and abdominal pain (+10% and +7%, or +177 visits and +26 visits);
Among those aged 75 and older, in moderate numbers, an increase in visits for heatstroke (+96%, or +28 visits) and asthma attacks (+22%, or +12 visits);
An increase in visits for conjunctivitis was also observed among children aged 2–14 (+18%, or +60 visits) and adults (+19%, or +140 visits).
