Key Points

• In Week 17 (April 21–27, 2025), a school vacation period for Zones A and C, emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations were down among children under 2 years of age (-8%, or 1,629 fewer visits, and -8%, or 1,489 fewer hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.

• Among children aged 2–14, there was an increase in visits for trauma (+8%, or +1,739 visits), specific abdominal pain (+5%, or +48 visits), and nonspecific abdominal pain (+11%, or +257 visits), as well as for chickenpox (+12%, or +22 visits). Visits for dehydration increased slightly among children aged 0–2 (+10%, or +17 visits).

• Among those aged 15–74, visits for insect bites are up (+29%, or +52 visits), as are visits for dehydration (+21%, or +14 visits). There was also an increase in visits for COVID-19 (+9%, or +36 visits across all age groups).

• Among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever (+6%, or +18 visits), conjunctivitis (+38%, or +18 visits), and cough (+18%, or +25 visits).

• Finally, there was an increase in visits for suicidal behavior among those under 65: +41% (60 more visits) among those under 15, +6% (61 more visits) among those aged 15–44, and +17% (51 more visits) among those aged 45–64.
