Key Points
In Week 16 (April 15–21, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits decreased among children aged 2–14 and remained stable in other age groups.
Among children under 15, visits for allergies are down (-15%, or -136 visits) but remain higher than in previous years. Among 2- to 14-year-olds, there is an increase in visits for skin and subcutaneous infections (+10%, or +73 visits).
Visits for chickenpox are down among children under 15 (-9%, or 62 fewer visits) and up among those over 15 (+11%, or 7 more visits). Visits for measles are down (10 visits versus 21 visits last week) across all age groups.
Most seasonal winter indicators continue to show a downward trend or remain stable across all age groups. However, compared to the previous week, there has been an increase in cases of acute bronchitis (+8%, or 105 visits) and suspected COVID-19 infections (+22%, or 34 visits) among those aged 15 and older.
