Key Points

  • In Week 16 (April 15–21, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits decreased among children aged 2–14 and remained stable in other age groups.

  • Among children under 15, visits for allergies are down (-15%, or -136 visits) but remain higher than in previous years. Among 2- to 14-year-olds, there is an increase in visits for skin and subcutaneous infections (+10%, or +73 visits).

  • Visits for chickenpox are down among children under 15 (-9%, or 62 fewer visits) and up among those over 15 (+11%, or 7 more visits). Visits for measles are down (10 visits versus 21 visits last week) across all age groups.

  • Most seasonal winter indicators continue to show a downward trend or remain stable across all age groups. However, compared to the previous week, there has been an increase in cases of acute bronchitis (+8%, or 105 visits) and suspected COVID-19 infections (+22%, or 34 visits) among those aged 15 and older.
