Key Points
In Week 16 (April 14–20, 2025), coinciding with school holidays, there was a decrease in emergency room visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits among children aged 2–14 (-14% and -12%, or 9,792 fewer visits and 729 fewer hospitalizations) compared to the previous week. In other age groups, visits remained stable.
Among adults, there was an increase in visits for chest pain (+9%, or 1,077 visits) and other neurological symptoms (+6%, or 464 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, in particular, there was an increase in visits for gastroenteritis (+29%, or +60 visits), urinary tract infections (+7%, or +102 visits), as well as for dyspnea and respiratory failure (+8%, or +145 visits).
Among children, insect bites increased among those under 15 years of age (+36%, or +32 visits), likely due to spring weather conditions. Among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in visits for specific abdominal pain (+15%, or +87 visits), while among those aged 2–14, visits for foreign bodies also rose (+7%, or +40 visits).
Across all age groups, with the exception of those aged 75 and older, there has been an increase in visits for chickenpox:
among children under 2 years old, +30% (25 more visits);
among 2- to 14-year-olds: +7%, or +14 visits;
among those aged 15–74: +60%, or 15 visits.
