Chido in Mayotte. Bulletin of February 20, 2025.

Key Points

  • At the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM), emergency department visits increased during week 2025-S07 (February 10–16), following three weeks of decline. Wounds and trauma have been the primary reason for emergency room visits since 2024-S52 and were on the rise again in 2025-S07, while visits for digestive disorders remained stable.

  • The ESCRIM Hospital and the dispensary closed their doors on the evening of February 3. Since February 4, patients have been treated by the SSFMT (Secouristes sans frontières medical team), which has no hospital beds or operating rooms. Traumas and skin conditions remained the primary reasons for consultation in 2025-S07.

  • In the referral medical centers (CMR), digestive symptoms remained the leading reason for seeking care. The proportion of cases involving trauma remained relatively stable, while that for skin infections tended to decrease in 2025-S07.

  • Influenza and bronchiolitis outbreaks were still ongoing in the country in 2025-S07, with relatively stable positivity rates.

  • The rate of stool samples testing positive for at least one enteric pathogen remained high, at 79%; a sharp slowdown in the circulation of rotavirus A was observed in recent weeks.

  • A decrease in the percentage of sales of anti-diarrheal medications and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) was recorded in sentinel pharmacies in 2025-S07; however, this proportion remained at a high level (4%).

  • More than 80% of households surveyed during community-based surveillance (CBS) outreach visits reported having more difficulty obtaining food than before Cyclone Chido struck.
