Public Health Bulletin on HIV and STIs in the Centre-Val de Loire region. December 2022.
Key points
HIV/AIDS
The increase in participation rates in LaboVIH continues (98%), although the completeness of data reporting has stabilized at 60% and reports covering both components (laboratory technician + clinician) have decreased by 14 percentage points.
HIV testing activity is at its highest level since 2010, but remains lower than in mainland France excluding the Île-de-France region.
This resurgence in testing has not been accompanied by an increase in the number of confirmed positive serology results in 2021. The estimated regional serology rate has stabilized, though it remains higher than that of mainland France excluding the Île-de-France region.
Newly diagnosed HIV-positive cases primarily involve men and people aged 25 to 49.
Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) infection
The increase in the number of people tested continues at a higher level than in 2020 for reimbursed screenings (+14%), while screenings at CeGIDD centers remain lower than those observed in 2020.
At the departmental level, the screening rate is lowest in Cher and highest in Indre-et-Loire for reimbursed screenings.
Screening primarily involves women, particularly those aged 25 and under (recommendation for routine screening among young women), whereas in CeGIDD, men are screened more frequently.
The diagnosis rate for Ct infections has remained stable since 2019 (1.1 per 1,000 inhabitants).
In CeGGID, the positivity rate for Ct infections has decreased slightly compared to 2020 (8.6% vs. 9.1%).
Nearly 6 out of 10 cases of Ct infections seen in CeGIDD are men, and these infections primarily affected heterosexual individuals (84.1%).
Gonococcal infection
The increase in the number of people tested continues, with reimbursed screenings exceeding 2020 levels (+11% compared to 2020), while screenings at CeGIDD remain below those observed in 2020.
At the departmental level, the screening rate is lowest in Cher and highest in Indre-et-Loire.
The screening rate is higher among women under 25 (joint screening via multiplex).
In CeGIDDs, the positivity rate for gonococcal infections is stable compared to 2020 (3.9%).
More than 8 out of 10 cases of gonococcal infection seen at CeGIDD are men, and 2 out of 3 cases were men who have sex with men
Syphilis
A resurgence in syphilis testing is also observed, with a testing rate similar to 2020 for reimbursed tests. This resurgence particularly affects women under 25.
At the departmental level, the screening rate is lowest in Indre and highest in Indre-et-Loire.
Screening at CeGIDD centers is higher than the level observed in 2019, and screening activity among men has doubled in 2021.
At CeGIDD, the positivity rate for syphilis infections is declining; however, the number of cases remains stable compared to 2020.
More than 9 out of 10 cases seen at CeGIDD are men who have sex with men.
