Leading causes of death in Corsica. 2023 Report.

Key points

  • 3,563 deaths were recorded among residents of Corsica, representing a standardized rate of 768 per 100,000 inhabitants;
  • The rate in Corsica was lower than the national rate (798 per 100,000 inhabitants), but had been trending toward it in recent years;
  • A decline in the mortality rate was recorded compared to 2022, as was the case nationally;
  • The two leading causes of death were neoplasms and diseases of the circulatory system, both at the regional level and in the two Corsican departments;
  • Male mortality was higher than female mortality (standardized mortality rate of 952 deaths per 100,000 men versus 635 deaths per 100,000 women);
  • The difference between men and women was particularly marked for diseases of the genitourinary system, external causes of morbidity and mortality, and for neoplasms;
  • Premature mortality (before age 65) was primarily due to neoplasms (a rate of 55 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants), followed by external causes of morbidity and mortality.
