International Scientific Symposium | Reducing the Burden of Alcohol: Focus on Scientific and Public Policy Challenges, December 3, 2024

Santé publique France, a scientific advisory body dedicated to the prevention of addictive behaviors, and EuroHealthNet, a European network of public organizations working to prevent disease and promote health, are organizing a scientific conference on December 3, 2024, on the topic of reducing alcohol-related harm.

Alcohol consumption has a significant impact on morbidity and mortality in Europe and imposes a considerable economic and social cost on society. Effective strategies recommended by experts and international bodies to reduce this burden of alcohol consumption are now well established. However, implementing them in France, as in many European countries, remains a complex challenge.

At this scientific symposium, researchers, representatives of organizations, and international scientific experts will share their knowledge and experiences regarding two scientific challenges in alcohol prevention:

  • How can the latest scientific knowledge be used to develop guidelines for lower-risk drinking, and how can these be effectively disseminated?

  • Commercial determinants of health: what impact do they have on prevention policies, and what are the levers for action in public health?
