  • Typhoid Fever

    • 231 cases of typhoid fever reported in Mayotte between 2019 and 2022 (annual incidence rate of 18 cases per 100,000 inhabitants)

    • Sharp increase in the reporting rate in 2022 (41 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) following a decline observed during the COVID-19 years (13.9 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020 and 5 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021)

    • The municipalities of Koungou and Dzaoudzi account for 70% of the cases reported in 2022

  • Hepatitis A

    • A total of 290 cases of hepatitis A reported in Mayotte from 2019 to 2022 (an average of 73 cases per year)

    • Annual reporting rate has been declining since 2020 10.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2022 but remains the highest nationally

    • The municipalities in the north and center of the island are the most affected

  • Diphtheria

    • Increase in the number of reported diphtheria cases in recent years: 29 cases between 2019 and 2022, nearly half of which (14 cases) occurred in 2022

    • Three unvaccinated infants under one year of age died between 2019 and 2022 (including two with toxigenic diphtheria)

    • Risk of resurgence due to insufficient vaccination coverage among children and adults
