Mental Health in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Bimonthly Epidemiological Update, June 28, 2022.

Key Points

Indicators of emergency room visits from the Oscour® network and SOS Médecins associations:

  • Among adults, visits to emergency departments for mental health issues remain within the usual expected range;

  • Among children, emergency department visits for mental health issues—which were higher than expected in 2021—do not show any unusual trends in 2022 but remain above the levels observed in 2018–2020;

  • Visits to emergency departments due to suicidal ideation among those aged 11 and older have remained higher than expected since early 2022, with a sharp increase observed in May, particularly among those under 65.

  • Other indicators (Oscour® or SOS Médecins) show no notable changes.

Indicators from the CoviPrev survey:

  • The latest waves of the COVIPREV survey (waves 33–34) show no significant changes in the monitored indicators. In wave 34 (May 9–16, 2022):

  • 25% reported having anxiety disorders (+11 percentage points compared to pre-pandemic levels);

  • 14% reported depressive symptoms (+4 percentage points compared to pre-pandemic levels);

  • 13% of respondents reported having had suicidal thoughts in the past 12 months (+8 percentage points compared to pre-pandemic levels);

  • 80% report being satisfied with their current life (-1 percentage point compared to pre-pandemic levels).
