COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Hauts-de-France Region as of January 20, 2023.

Key Points

  • In urban areas, the number of patients seeking care for suspected Covid-19 continues to decline, and the volume of activity remains stable at a low level across all sectors of the region covered by SOS Médecins associations.

  • In hospitals, new admissions to general wards and intensive care units continue to decline. In emergency departments, visits for suspected COVID-19 and hospitalizations following such visits are also decreasing.

  • The trend in virological indicators from TAG is favorable and consistent with indicators from other surveillance systems.

  • Regarding circulating variants, the BA.5 sublineage of Omicron remains ubiquitous, and among its own sublineages, BQ.1.1 remains the dominant strain.

  • Currently, less than one-third of people over 60—including just over one in five people over 80—have “up-to-date” COVID-19 vaccine protection or protection adapted to Omicron variants.
