  • In 2018, in Normandy, 13,944 daily smokers registered for Mois Sans Tabac, representing 5.8% of registrations for this national campaign. The majority of registrants were between the ages of 15 and 44 (74.3%), corresponding to the age group primarily targeted by this initiative.

  • During the 2018 Mois Sans Tabac campaign, the number of calls to the Tabac Info Service hotline from residents of the Normandy region was 621, or 5.1% of calls recorded in mainland France. This figure represented a 74% increase compared to 2017.

  • In 2018, Promotion Santé Normandie, the regional ambassador, recorded 224 initiatives in the region, representing a 72% increase compared to 2016.

  • In 2017, in the Normandy region, among daily smokers, the average consumption of manufactured cigarettes was 7.7 cigarettes per day (8.4 in metropolitan France) and that of hand-rolled cigarettes averaged 6.3 cigarettes (4.4 in metropolitan France).

  • In Normandy in 2015, the proportion of deaths attributable to smoking among women was 5.7% (6.9% in metropolitan France), representing an estimated 929 deaths. Among men, the proportion of deaths attributable to smoking was 21.0% (19.3% in mainland France), representing an estimated 3,508 deaths.

  • Cancer (67.1% among men and 51.3% among women), cardiovascular diseases (21.3% among men and 28.3% among women), and chronic respiratory diseases (9.3% among men and 16.1% among women) are the most common causes of death. Furthermore, 27% of deaths were attributed to smoking before the age of 65, compared to 10% after age 65.
