Health Monitoring in French Guiana. Bulletin of April 10, 2025.

Key Points

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • The seasonal flu epidemic continues, with fluctuations over the past few weeks: following a sharp increase, the number of visits for flu-like symptoms has been decreasing at health centers in Maroni.

  • It remains stable and high in private practice. Meanwhile, the number of visits to the emergency departments at CHC and CHOG has risen slightly over the past two weeks.

Dengue

  • Over the past two weeks (W13 and W14), overall dengue activity in the region was relatively low and stable, consistent with levels observed during the inter-epidemic period.

  • The number of confirmed cases was decreasing in the West Coast sector and stable in the Savanes sector, where the majority of confirmed cases were reported.

  • The serotype identified over the past two weeks (W13 and W14) was exclusively DENV-2.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases diagnosed in the healthcare system over the past two weeks was low, with 2 cases of P. vivax (1 each in S13 and S14, vs. 4 in total in S11 and S12), none of which were relapses.

  • Malaria activity has been declining since the beginning of the year: a total of 46 cases have been recorded since the start of the year, including 27 in January, 12 in February, 4 in March, and 1 in April.

Diarrhea

  • Activity was on the rise in remote communities (CDPS and local hospitals) and along the coast over the past two weeks (data from the Cayenne and West Guyana regional hospitals).

  • Activity remained stable in private practice.
