Key points

Bronchiolitis (under 1 year old)

  • Epidemic activity has peaked. There has been a decrease in visits to hospital emergency rooms and SOS Médecins consultations. Virology laboratories at the region’s university hospitals report a decline in RSV detection in Rennes and stable levels in Brest.

  • Other viruses capable of causing bronchiolitis are circulating, notably rhinoviruses.

COVID-19

  • Low activity.

Influenza and flu-like illness

  • Epidemic activity. Stable number of emergency room visits and a slight decrease in the number of SOS Médecins consultations for influenza and flu-like illness. Cases are decreasing among children and increasing among adults, particularly the elderly. Increase in the detection of influenza A virus according to data from the virology laboratories at the Rennes University Hospital and the Brest University Hospital.

Gastroenteritis

  • Moderate activity. Increase in the number of SOS Médecins consultations (among adults) and slight decrease in the number of emergency room visits across all age groups.

ENT Conditions

  • High activity related to ENT conditions. In Week 52, among children under 5, ENT conditions accounted for 14% of emergency department visits and 51.3% of SOS Médecins consultations. Increase in the detection rate of rhinoviruses/enteroviruses by the Virology Laboratory at Rennes University Hospital (positivity rate of 24.2% in Week 52 compared to 11.9% in Week 51).

Pneumonias

  • Significant increase in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for pneumonia, affecting adults.

Asthma

  • High activity. Increase in SOS Médecins consultations (among adults) and decrease in emergency department visits (particularly among children), all ages.
