Dengue Surveillance in the Caribbean. Update as of June 1, 2023.

Key Points

  • In Guadeloupe, the virus is spreading across the archipelago, with several sporadic cases and three outbreaks identified in Trois-Rivières, Gosier, and Saint-François.

  • In Martinique, the spread of the dengue virus continues mainly in the southern part of the island. An outbreak has been identified in the town of Trois-Ilets.

  • Several dengue cases have been imported into mainland France since the start of the resurgence in cases (November 2022 for Guadeloupe and January 2023 for Martinique). The DENV-2 serotype has been identified among cases treated locally in both territories and among imported cases.

  • In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the situation remains calm. However, various factors (traveler traffic, major events) could lead to a deterioration of the epidemiological situation.

According to the PSAGE dengue guidelines, the epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 2, Level 1: Isolated outbreaks or outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s) in Guadeloupe and Martinique, and to Phase 1: Sporadic cases in Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy.
