Trends in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in the Armed Forces
The reported data cover a 12-year period from 1983 to 1994. The epidemiological surveillance covers serologically confirmed syphilis, gonorrhea—which is most often diagnosed clinically and corresponds to the syndrome of acute purulent urethritis—as well as "other STDs." This category includes clinical diagnoses of condyloma and biologically confirmed diagnoses of infections caused by Candida, Chlamydia, Trichomonas, etc. Viral hepatitis and HIV infections are not addressed in this study.
