The disease

Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm: a life-threatening emergency

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are a permanent dilation of the aortic wall in its abdominal portion.

ABAs are progressive conditions that are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. The main complication of an ABA is rupture, which constitutes a life-threatening emergency with a high mortality rate.

Age, male gender, smoking, high blood pressure, and a family history of the condition are the main factors associated with the risk of developing an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
