Health Insurance Reimbursement Data
Health insurance reimbursements serve as a data source for monitoring HCV antibody (Ab) screening activity in France. These data pertain exclusively to laboratory tests performed on an outpatient basis or during hospitalization at a private, for-profit healthcare facility. This data does not cover procedures performed in public healthcare facilities (hospitalizations or outpatient visits).
The data come from SNIIRAM (National Inter-Regime Health Insurance Information System), which provides data from all health insurance schemes across France. These data are accessible via the SNIIRAM SNDS portal. Reimbursements for anti-HCV antibody screening correspond to procedure code 3784 in the Nomenclature of Medical Laboratory Procedures.
Trends in reimbursements for anti-HCV antibody screening (2010–2016)
In 2016, 3.3 million tests for anti-HCV antibodies (Ac) were performed and reimbursed in France in the private sector (data from all health insurance schemes, all of France, SNIIRAM), of which 2.6 million were performed and reimbursed by the general health insurance scheme (all of France, SNIIRAM).
Data on reimbursements across all health insurance schemes show an annual increase ranging from 4.6% to 5.8% over the past five years, rising from 2,514,915 tests (38.4 tests per 1,000 inhabitants) in 2012 to 3,283,809 tests (49.2 tests per 1,000 inhabitants) in 2016.
Reimbursement data from the general health insurance scheme, which provides historical data starting in 2010, shows a similar trend (Figure 1).
