Measles Vaccination: Who Should Get It, and Why?

France, like all countries in the WHO European Region, has set a goal of eliminating measles and congenital rubella by 2010. A national elimination plan defined new vaccination strategies in 2005. These strategies are primarily aimed at increasing vaccination coverage rates for the trivalent measles-rubella-mumps (MMR) vaccine for the first and second doses. From now on, the first dose is recommended at 12 months and the second dose between 13 and 24 months. For the next few years, it will also be necessary to catch up on vaccinations for unvaccinated adolescents and young adults.
