Tuberculosis Surveillance in the WHO European Region, 1995–1996

Established in 1996, the Euro TB project for tuberculosis (TB) surveillance in Europe aims to collect, analyze, and disseminate data on reported tuberculosis cases in 50 countries within the WHO European Region (the 51st country, Turkey, did not provide its data). Following a feasibility study conducted in 1996–1997 on cases reported in 1995, a regular data collection system was established. The project is jointly led by the European Centre for the Epidemiological Surveillance of AIDS (ECESA) in Saint-Maurice (France) and the Royal Netherlands Tuberculosis Association (KNCV) in The Hague (Netherlands). Detailed results from these two years of surveillance can be found in: "Surveillance of tuberculosis in Europe - Report on tuberculosis cases notified in 1996" - September 1998. This report, which is available only in English, includes a summary in French. This report—as well as the one from the previous year (cases reported in 1995)—is available at the ORS documentation center and classified under the topic "Infectious Diseases" (tuberculosis), Call Number E50 CES. (R.A.)
